Dedicated to the memory of Roy Jarvis

Roy Jarvis (1929-2020), a long time resident of Horsell, previously of Colwall (Hfds) and Olney (Bucks) passed away November 2nd at St Peters Hospital, Chertsey.
Roy was born January 27th, 1929 in Olney to William and Alice (née Philpott) who farmed there. He attended the town school and then Wolverton Grammar. This was followed by National Service in the RAF. He had originally considered a career as an artist but the RAF exposed him to the high technology of the day and this piqued his interests - a degree in Electrical Engineering at Imperial College, London was completed and Roy embarqued on a life-long career in the field.
His first employment was in Malvern where he met his future wife, Sylvia, who was a music teacher at one of the local schools. They married in 1955 and shortly thereafter moved across the hills to Colwall. Over the following few years, three children were produced.
1977 brought a change of scenery: a new job brought the family to the South-East where they settled in Horsell.
Roy and Sylvia were both active in the community and gave a great deal of their time as volunteers, as they had done in their prior locales. Roy was particularly active with St Mary's Church, serving in many different positions and on many committees. After retiring in 1989, he continued as Church Warden and also spent many hours on maintenance of the Church and churchyard. It wasn't until 2018 that he finally had to surrender and let the younger generation take over.
Roy was predeceased by Sylvia, his parents, and his brother, William, lately of Amherstburg, Ontario, Canada. He is survived by his children, Stephen (Norma) of Londonderry, NH, Nicola of Meerbusch, Gemany, and Ian (Hellen) of Burton-on-the-Wolds, eight grandchildren, his sister-in-law, Diana, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives spread around the Globe.
"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" John xiv – 6
